Are men really from Mars? Women from Venus? You?d think so from recent research on why we take jobs in the financial arena in the first place. (Hands up those of you who do it for love? No? The biggest paycheck? Yep, I thought so. You?ll be the boys, then).
Apparently, women are more likely to opt for jobs in the financial services sector so that they can gain access to equal pay and flexible working hours. A female-focused marketing firm in the UK, Aurora, conducted the survey which found that many women will value a company?s stance on diversity, equal pay commitment and perceived overall employee happiness when taking up a position with a financial firm.More to the point, financial sector companies faring well in female eyes in the UK survey included Barclays, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB. Dutch bank ABN Amro was the overall winner.
That?s a big step forward, guys ? take a bow.
So while the men supposedly opt for bigger pay packages rather than workplace ambience, the ladies are getting pickier about who deserves their services and how they spend their working day. We think it?s about time too.
